Stephen Woodhouse

Now working part time, finishing the regular patients I have treated for the past 38 years. My intention is to set up a specialised practice within Ivory Dental with Geoff Readshaw. At present we share a oral surgery contract and responsibility for the implants placed within the practice.

Ivory Implants will arrive during 2013 and accept referrals in house, from other practices and new patients wanting advanced work.

“Sand grown” I went to Waterloo primary school and then Arnold as an 11 plus sponsored student. It was there I discovered a lasting love of science generally and specifically physics, together with shooting that has never left me. Dentistry was a reflection of the science and the love of making things. Dentistry was studied at Liverpool and I graduated in 1975. I went to work for Mr. A.W.J.Lovatt in 1976 and as a partner with Mr.D.T. McLellan bought the King Street Practice in 1978. This practice grew to 20,000 patients and in 1989 I acquired Whitegate Drive surgery. King Street was sold and all efforts directed to enlarging and building a different and better practice, which I hope you will agree has happened.

In December 2008 the surgery acquired the Park Road site for expansion because we reached capacity at Whitegate Drive. I have really enjoyed building the new very modern surgery and getting the complex variety of equipment to work together. It has at times been frustrating but I still get that wonderful feeling when something that didn’t work springs to life.

The interest in the new continues and I have attended the Manchester implant course with Mr. C. Ucer which now forms an increasing part of the practice. I have been researching other implant systems to try to bring the prices down so more patients can benefit from implant treatment. A member of the Association of Implantology and the International Team for Implantology.

General dentistry still holds its fascination and is ever changing with new materials and techniques coming almost weekly, so change is part of life and keeps it interesting.

I am married to Susan who now manages the Imaging department of Spire Fylde Coast Hospital with two boys Paul who is a computer graduate working at Wyre Borough Council and Daniel who works part time to enable him to study Italian and pursue his first love which is singing classical opera.

Life is good!
